Abstract

The performance characteristics of a single- phase stator excited generator are presented. Some salient points inherent in the generators ability to produce a voltage under different conditions are highlighted. The generator is shown to be capable of stand- alone activity and providing easily controllable output. The model is developed with a general R-L load to represent a common application of these generators as stand-alone power sources. The same stator is used with two rotors, one round and the other with salient poles, yielding an induction and synchronous reluctance generators respectively. It is shown that in both cases, the frequency of the output load current is twice that of the rotor current and that the load characteristics are superior when a salient pole rotor is used instead of a round rotor.
