Road Infrastructure Strategic Framework: A Panacea for Effective Transportation System in Nigeria

Abstract

This paper makes it clear that the basic network information with which an efficient decision support system can be maintained is lacking from our road agencies. The need to rectify this unhealthy situation motivates the extended conclusions and recommendations given in the paper.

A Road Maintenance System (RMS) incorporating various disaster-prevention measures which makes it possible for all road maintenance officers to grasp real-time, the traffic regulations and detours to avoid them all over the prefecture is proposed.

A model, "Family of Measures" designed to represent the performance of transportation systems from three different perspectives, including government, road administrators and road users, developed by the Europe-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is proposed for use in Nigeria, if the benefits of our road transportation will be maximized.
