STABILITY OF EMBANKMENTS IN THE YENAGOA AREA OF THE NIGER DELTA

Abstract

This paper presents case records of embankment failures, while the computed safety factors were higher than unity. A modified method of stability analysis is therefore adopted in a programme of research into the problem of embankment stability in the Yenagoa area of the Niger Delta. Good results are obtained with the modified method. A brief outline is also given of some construction expedients for countering problems of settlement and stability.
