Abstract

A five-step approach to facility routine maintenance scheduling is presented. The approach involves parts segmentation, identification of maintenance activities and frequencies, time and material analysis, compilation of schedules, and implementation and control, in that order.

The application of the method is illustrated with examples.

The method is particularly useful in organizations where expertise in detailed industrial engineering techniques, and relevant information on technical specifications and maintenance requirements are limited or absent. This situation is prevalent in developing countries.
