Abstract

The procedure for assessing foundation stability of jack-up rig (self-elevating drilling unit) on offshore soil has become increasing important as a result of the frequent incidence of rig damage and in some cases total collapse of the rig. In this investigation, computer simulation in assessing the foundation stability during a preload check of production jack-up rig is presented. Predicted results of two analytical methods are compared to establish the reliability of an initial theoretical assessment of the procedure. The methods used gave good agreement. A framework for these assessments ensures the safe operation of jack-up rigs in deeper waters.
