Abstract

Inhibition of corrosion of an aluminum alloy in solution of sodium hydroxide has been studied with respect to the concentration of inhibitor, and temperature using gravimetric technique. The test specimens were exposed to 0.1M NaOH solutions containing controlled additions of glucose in the range 0 to 5.0%.

At constant alkali concentration the efficiency of inhibition increases with the increase in the concentration of the inhibitor. A rise in temperature increases the extent of corrosion and an inhibitive efficiency of 95-98% was achieved at the level of 5% of glucose in 0.1M NaOH in the temperature range 30 60°C.
