This project examines the possibility of manufacturing a pneumatically actuated diaphragm pump locally to compete with imported pumps of similar capacity. The study also includes a review of the basic theories of compressed air and also covers conceptual and detailed design, manufacturing, cost analysis and finally testing. The analysis of the study shows that the pump has a theoretical volume flow rate of 34 litres/min, an inlet pressure of 6 bar, a suction head of 10.4m and a discharge head of 65m. The work also looked at the various problems encountered during manufacturing process and proposes solutions and recommendation to surmount these difficulties, to ensure that the pump can be locally produced to meet international standard.
