PERFORMANCE INDEX OF ALHAMDURI URBAN WATER WORK DISTRIBUTION NETWORK, MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE
Keywords:

The study assessed and simulated the current condition of the Alhamduri Distribution Network, Maiduguri and checked the discharge and pressure heads in order to provide feasible solution and remedies to the setbacks affecting the distribution network. The network was analysed using hydraulic simulation software “EPANET 2.0”. It was observed from the analysis that there is a pressure deficiency which leads to several shortcomings within the distribution network. The maximum pressure of the network ranged from 20 to 36 m. About 40 nodes are within the acceptable limits, while the remaining 200 nodes are below the acceptable limits with about 62 nodes having negative pressures. It was concluded that the present system is not capable of supplying sufficient water to meet up the Daily Average Demand (DAD). The current status of the water work revealed that there is a need for additional improvement on the daily production, redistribution and the distribution network elements. Pipeline monitoring tools should be installed to monitor the condition of the distribution network.
