Abstract

Jack-up rigs are widely used for deep drilling in offshore locations. Because of the heavy tonnage of the rig and accessories and the high cost of failure, it is required that the spudcan be driven to and supported by a competent bearing layer. Such competent layer must combine attributes of thickness and strength to maintain stability during drilling operations. This paper presents a case study offshore the coast of Sangana in the Niger delta.
